What is a .torrent file?
This is a small metadata file. Metadata here means that the file contains information about the data you want to download, not the data itself.
Your BitTorrent client needs the .torrent file to connect to the tracker (see below) and download the actual data you’re interested in.

ubuntu websites by default offer direct downloads which may broke on the way . to avoid this personally i prefer torrents. Ubuntu always offer torrents even if its in a much inner page. Here is how we can go to the torrent download.
Now click on the version you prefer ( Desktop, Server or cloud )

Now scroll down to bottom ” Alternative Options”
Now go to BitTorrent section for selecting right torrent(s) for you, Use uTorrent for faster download
